Kwispaa LNG will generate significant economic benefits for the Alberni Valley, Vancouver Island, and the Province of BC as a whole. The proposed Project would lead to substantial job creation and growth in the local and regional economy.

Expected economic benefits of the proposed LNG Project include:

During construction we would expect approximately 1,500-2,000 workers during a 52-month construction period for each phase of 12-million-tonnes of LNG per year. During operations we anticipate approximately 200-240 full-time employees during Phase 1, and 240-300 full-time employees at full built-out. There are all sorts of different types of jobs that the proposed Project would require including:

• trades positions (gasfitters, electricians, welders)
• engineers
• equipment operators
• technicians
• security
• administrative positions

Additionally, the proposed Project would generate hundreds of spin-off jobs and business opportunities across multiple sectors, including:

• hospitality
• recreation
• tourism
• transportation
• catering
• other service sectors

This means more local spin-off jobs in restaurants, schools, medical providers, grocery stores, hotels, and other service providers, which would provide sustained investment in the Vancouver Island and BC economies for 25 years or more.

Throughout the development of the proposed Project, Steelhead LNG and Hu-ay-aht First Nations will share information with Indigenous groups and communities about the types of training that would be required for positions in the LNG industry.
